National CPR/AED Awareness Week June 1 – June 7
ROCHESTER, N.Y., Thursday, May 27, 2010 — National CPR (Cardiopulmonary resuscitation) and AED (Automatic External Defibrillator) Awareness Week is June 1-7 and spotlights how lives can be saved if more Americans know CPR and how to use an AED.
On Wednesday, June 2 the Greater Rochester Red Cross will hold a press conference at the Chapter, 50 Prince St. at 10:30 am to celebrate National CPR/AED Awareness Week. Four quick thinking individuals will be honored for saving a man’s life by utilizing American Red Cross training and reunite with him since the date of the incident. The date of “Super CPR Saturday” the FREE training day to the community will be announced to certify 150 adults in Adult CPR/AED Training.
“The Greater Rochester Red Cross trains more than 50,000 people each year in First Aid, CPR, AED, water safety and other lifesaving skills,” said John Buttrill, CEO of the Greater Rochester Red Cross. “We will certify the first 150 people to register for Super CPR Saturday for free and ensure they have the Adult CPR/AED training needed to be ready to respond in an emergency situation with skills that can save a life. Super CPR Saturday classes will be offered in English, Spanish, and American Sign Language.”
The Greater Rochester Red Cross trains approximately 325 area businesses, two of which are Cloverwood Senior Living and Pooler Enterprises. One typical day of work for a few representatives of Pooler Enterprises working a job at Cloverwood Senior Living resulted in an unexpected response to help one of the employee’s of Pooler Enterprises who suffered Sudden Cardiac Arrest. Three staff members at Cloverwood worked with the Pooler employee to help save his colleague’s life.
“CPR/AED training can mean the difference between life and death in a cardiac emergency,” Buttrill says. “For every minute CPR is not administered it decreases the chance of life by 10 percent. A CPR and AED Demonstration will be available at the press conference.”
