RED CROSS DEPLOYS VOLUNTEERS TO AID IN

SOUTHEAST RELIEF EFFORTS

ROCHESTER, N.Y., Thursday, May 6, 2010 — The Greater Rochester Red Cross is deploying volunteers Dan Wiesmore and Dr. Alvani Santos to Tennessee to help respond to one of the worst floodings Tennessee has seen. Wiesmore is a resident of Churchville and Santos is a resident of Brighton. Both are scheduled to leave tomorrow morning, Friday, May 7.

“Dan will be assisting with the damage assessment team efforts in Tennessee and Dr. Santos will help with Health Services,” said Leighton Jones, Director of Disaster & Emergency Services at the Greater Rochester Red Cross. “Red Cross Damage Assessment consists of assessing areas affected and servicing communities impacted by the flooding. The Red Cross provides relief to individuals and families that have been displaced by the flooding and will help as long as people need the services.”

Tennessee Chapters of the American Red Cross have opened at least 17 emergency shelters around the state, providing a dry place to sleep and a warm meal to displaced residents.

Also deploying from the Greater Rochester Red Cross Chapter is volunteer Allen Roach to Mississippi, not far from Tennessee, where residents are still recovering from devastating tornadoes. A resident of

Honeoye Falls, Roach is scheduled to leave tomorrow afternoon, Friday, May 7.

Allen will assist in providing tornado victims and their families comfort during their time of need.  Many will need assistance in order to get their lives back on track after their horrific loss.
