OVER $200,000 FROM ROCHESTER TO HAITI
Red Cross & WROC TV 8 Helping Haiti Telethon Ends at 7 pm

 

ROCHESTER, N.Y., Friday, January 15, 2010 – Hundreds of calls have turned into thousands of dollars for Haiti relief. Volunteers have filled the last shift for the Helping Haiti telethon being held at the Greater Rochester Red Cross, which ends at 7 pm. tonight.
 
The telethon phone lines will close at 7 p.m. but donations can be accepted by calling 1-800-REDCROSS or by going to www.RochesterRedCross.org over the weekend. The Greater Rochester Chapter will reopen on Monday morning at 9 a.m. and reconvene accepting donations at 585-241-4417.

 

“We’re so grateful to the community,” said John Buttrill, CEO of the Greater Rochester Red Cross. “Thanks to so many individuals and corporations we are well over $200,000 that will be used to purchase food, water, medical supplies and other basic necessities for Haiti relief efforts.”

• Text “HAITI” to 90999 and a $10 donation will be made to the American Red Cross International Response Fund for Haiti relief.

 

People trying to locate U.S. citizens living or traveling in Haiti should contact the U.S. Department of State, Office of Overseas Citizens Services, at 1-888-407-4747 or (202) 647-5225.

 

International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) is helping reconnect separated families in Haiti. People in Haiti and outside the country can register the names of relatives missing since the earthquake at http://www.icrc.org/familylinks.
