New coalition and its website created for those who serve our country
A new coalition formed to provide support to veterans, service members and their families across six counties in the Greater Rochester area was announced today: Help Base Greater Rochester. At a press conference held at the American Red Cross, Help Base Greater Rochester launched its new website, www.HBRochester.org a new community resource for veterans, service members and their families seeking assistance and organizations providing assistance in Monroe, Livingston, Ontario, Seneca, Wayne, and Yates counties.
The American Red Cross, Army Strong Community Center, Canandaigua Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Monroe County Veterans Service Agency, Rochester Vet Center, The Salvation Army – Rochester Area Services, and the Veterans Outreach Center are the partners that make up Help Base Greater Rochester.
“The goal of Help Base Greater Rochester is to holistically address the needs of veterans, service members and their families,” said John Buttrill, CEO of the American Red Cross, Greater Rochester Chapter. “By providing a one-stop-shop website compiled of the various services offered by the involved agencies, individuals are able to get assistance through one central resource.”
Veterans, service members, and their families have been heavily impacted by the deployment and redeployment back to the war zone. They face many challenges in a wide array of areas including mental/emotional, legal, financial, employment, housing, healthcare, education, and more. In order to help address these challenges, these seven independent organizations have come together as a community. This is an effort to serve those who serve us.
“Nearly 1.7 million U.S. troops have been deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan,” said Craig S. Howard, Director of the Canandaigua VA Medical Center. “Many people are and will continue to be impacted on various levels now and when the war is over. Help Base Greater Rochester is unique because it’s a proactive approach and is in place and accessible now, before the war ends and troops return home.”
Help Base Greater Rochester is also reaching out to other community partners, corporations, and individuals to increase support for this effort.
“This new coalition is another great ability of Rochester – collaboration/organizations coming together to support…” said Maggie Brooks, County Executive for Monroe County.
