ROCHESTER, N.Y., Tuesday, March 24, 2009—What do the Mambo Kings, a blood drive, and Starbucks coffee have in common? They are three of the highlights for the Red Cross events planned this weekend to conclude our celebration of March is Red Cross Month. This Saturday, March 28 the Red Cross has three events planned between 8:30 a.m. to 9 p.m., all of which are open to the public.

The Mambo Kings are playing live and donating a portion of the proceeds of their CD sales that night to support our Greater Rochester Hispanic Youth Leadership Development Program. In addition Barnes & Noble is also holding a book fair that evening with the proceeds benefiting our youth program. Make a purchase and submit the special voucher located at: http://tinyurl.com/cxl6p2 with any purchase at any Barnes & Noble across the country on Saturday, March 28 and a portion of the sales will also be donated to our Greater Rochester Red Cross Hispanic Youth Leadership Development Program.

“Red Cross Month is a time the Greater Rochester Red Cross takes to highlight the various programs and services we offer to the community everyday,” said John Buttrill, CEO of the Greater Rochester Red Cross. “We encourage the community to attend these events to learn more about how the Red Cross operates in Monroe and West Ontario Counties and to get involved.”
In 2008, 2,200 Red Cross volunteers helped more than 350 families with shelter, food, and clothing when fire forced them from their homes; they trained more than 60,000 people in First Aid, CPR, water safety and other life saving courses; they made more than 1,000 hot meals every day for the homebound and elderly; they mentored more than 100 city school students and guided them towards a promising future; staffed nearly 1,200 blood drives; and kept 648 U.S. military families connected with their loved ones.
