CANANDIAGUA, N.Y., Tuesday, February 17, 2009—Swing to the sounds of the 40s and benefit local disaster relief at the 4th Annual Blossom Room Ball. Tickets are available now for the American Red Cross West Ontario office dinner/dance event, which kick-off at 6:30 p.m. Friday, March 6 at the Steamboat Landing, 205 Lakeshore Drive in Canandaigua.
Come dance to the big band with music provided by the fabulous Canandaigua Dance Band, under the direction of Chuck Morey. Enjoy a dinner and dessert buffet, silent auction and a dance contest. “We have re-created the atmosphere of the 40s with music, decorations and memorabilia of the war years,” said Judith Bennett, Director of the American Red Cross West Ontario Office. “It’s a great night of dancing and memories to support our Chapter’s disaster response efforts.” Period dress is optional but encouraged.
On August 24, 1942, the Canandaigua Red Cross Canteen Corps opened the Blossom Room in the Canandaigua Hotel to welcome WWII service men changing trains and as a meeting place for draftees. During a three year period, American Red Cross volunteers provided services to over 43,000 GIs passing through our generous community. Tickets are $50/person; $45/seniors 65+ and are available at the Red Cross, 5297 Parkside Drive, Canandaigua, and all Ontario County Canandaigua National Bank branches.
