Local Red Cross spends evening honoring volunteers
ROCHESTER, N.Y., Monday, September 26, 2011—At the Red Cross, our volunteers are the heartbeat of our organization. From working the canteen at blood drives to reporting for three-week deployments across the nation, without our volunteers, the Red Cross would not be the successful organization it is today.
In spite of their predilection for hard work, Red Cross volunteers like to play hard, too! This year, to honor our many dedicated volunteers, the Red Cross will be holding its 27th annual volunteer recognition event at the Strong National Museum of Play on Tuesday, September 27 from 5:30-7:30 p.m.
“Our volunteers really make the Red Cross ‘happen,’” said Sheryl Karch, Director of Volunteer Services. “They are the hands of the Red Cross in our community.”
While we will be honoring all of our earnest volunteers, a few will be given special awards for their dedication to the organization’s mission. Award categories include:
- Volunteer service pins
- Significant years of service pins
- Outstanding internship
- Outstanding partnership
- Special citation for exceptional volunteer service award
- Good neighbor award
The evening will be moderated by News 10 NBC Reporter Lynette Adams. Members of the media are invited to attend.
