Inaugural Red Cross Festival kicks off tomorrow
ROCHESTER, N.Y., Friday, June 10, 2011—It’s festival season here in Rochester and the Red Cross has festival fever! We’re kicking off our first annual Red Cross Festival and the theme is Celebrating our Hometown Heroes.
Join us tomorrow, Saturday, June 11 from 3-9 p.m. as we honor those among us who have acted selflessly for the safety and protection of others, including a humanitarian hero; an emergency responder hero; a pet rescue hero; a blood hero; and a military hero.
Heroes will be honored on the following schedule:
4:30-5:00 p.m.
• Emergency Response Hero
• Animal Rescue Hero
6:00-6:30 p.m.
• Blood Hero
• Military Hero
• Humanitarian Hero
Between award presentations, festival patrons can enjoy live music provided by Nik Entertainment and
John Marshall High School. The band lineup is as follows:
• 3:30 p.m. Tallboys
• 5:00 p.m. John Marshall High School Urban Steel Drum Band
• 6:30 p.m. 441
• 8:00 p.m. TOTALLY 80's Showband
In addition to heroes awards and great live music, festival-goers will receive free food samplings with their ticket purchase. Rochester establishments such as Hicks and McCarthy, Juan and Maria's Empanada Stop, Lento, and Uno Chicago Grill will be providing food, along with the Red Cross’s own in-house kitchen. Wright-Wisner Distributing Corp. has provided beverages, two of which are included in the price of the tickets.
The festival will include a kids’ fun area complete with bounce houses, tasty treats, carnival games, fire trucks, and more! In addition, each adult ticket purchase enters the purchaser into a door prize drawing. Door prizes include:
• A trip for two to Mirbeau Inn and Spa (sponsored by AAA of Western and Central NY)
• Two airline tickets for use within the continental US (sponsored by AirTran Airways).

Prices are $25 for adults 21+; $10 for youth ages 4-20; and 3 and under are free. The festival will be held on Red Cross grounds at 50 Prince Street.
